{"id":488,"date":"2009-10-26T11:54:42","date_gmt":"2009-10-26T19:54:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thezeal.com\/cooking\/?p=488"},"modified":"2009-10-26T11:54:42","modified_gmt":"2009-10-26T19:54:42","slug":"paruppu-urundai-kozhambu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kaizen.ist\/cooking\/paruppu-urundai-kozhambu\/","title":{"rendered":"Paruppu Urundai Kozhambu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gram Dal &#8211; 3\/4 cup<\/li>\n<li>Turmeric powder &#8211; 1\/2 tsp<\/li>\n<li>Onions &#8211; 1 diced<\/li>\n<li>Dry red chillies &#8211; 3<\/li>\n<li>Chilli powder &#8211; 1 tsp<\/li>\n<li>Coriander powder &#8211; 1 tsp<\/li>\n<li>Saunf &#8211; 1\/4 tsp<\/li>\n<li>Mustard seeds &#8211; 1\/2 tsp<\/li>\n<li>Oil &#8211; 2 tbsp<\/li>\n<li>Salt to taste<\/li>\n<li>Grated coconut &#8211; 1\/4 cup (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nSoak gram dal for a couple of hours and grind them to a very coarse mix adding the red chillies and saunf and about 1\/2 tsp salt. Make small marble to lime sized balls from the mix and steam them in idli plates in a pressure cooker (Alternatively, can place them in the idli plates and cut them into bite sized pieces after they are steamed).<\/p>\n<p>In a pan, heat oil, splutter mustard seeds. Then add the onions and saute for a while. Add turmeric powder, chilli and coriander powders and fry for a few minutes adding water. Then add the steamed dal balls into the mix and allow to cook for a few minutes. Optionally, can grind the grated coconut with some water to a fine paste and add to the kozhambu.
