{"id":298,"date":"2009-10-23T18:07:18","date_gmt":"2009-10-24T02:07:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thezeal.com\/cooking\/?p=298"},"modified":"2009-10-27T04:03:56","modified_gmt":"2009-10-27T12:03:56","slug":"rice-kozhukattai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kaizen.ist\/cooking\/rice-kozhukattai\/","title":{"rendered":"Rice Kozhukattai"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rice &#8211; 2 cups<\/li>\n<li>Grated coconut &#8211; 1 cup<\/li>\n<li>Coconut pieces &#8211; diced into thin strips 2 tbsp<\/li>\n<li>Gram Dal &#8211; 1 tbsp<\/li>\n<li>Split urad dal &#8211; 1\/2 tbsp<\/li>\n<li>Red Chillies &#8211; 3<\/li>\n<li>Curry Leaves &#8211; a few<\/li>\n<li>Salt to taste<\/li>\n<li>Mustard Seeds &#8211; 1\/2 tsp<\/li>\n<li>Oil &#8211; 3 tbsp<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<br \/>\n<\/strong>Soak the rice in water for 3 hours. Grind it with salt and grated coconut to make a fine batter.<\/p>\n<p>In a thick bottomed pan, heat some oil and splutter mustard seeds. Then add the urad dal, gram dal, red chillies (break them into pieces) and curry leaves. Then pour the rice batter in, keeping the flame\/heat to a low to medium setting, and stirring the batter constantly till it becomes almost thick like a dough.<\/p>\n<p>Remove from heat and allow to cool for sometime (till you can handle the dough in your hands). While almost hot\/warm, make lemon-sized balls out of the dough and steam them in idli moulds in a pressure cooker for 10 minutes.
