How could anyone even ponder and think about the first order, the second order and the third order effects of such a big change brought on by LLMs and their human like ability to think and reason and their access to almost an infinite supply of information.

So I did what almost everyone generally does when faced with such questions.

I ignored it.

However, recently a friend asked “Is everyone going to be smarter with AI?”

This forced me to think about one aspect of the change that is coming.

Is everyone going to be smarter now?

Let’s walk through this…

We started with no stored information, till we had books and libraries. And people who could study these books and had access to them had enormous influence and power.

Then we had the printing press, radios, tvs, mobile phones and the internet.

Suddenly information was not limited, it was unlimited. You could at the flick of a wrist pull up information on anything you could wish. You could choose to become an expert on any subject you wanted. You could become a doctor, a lawyer and an engineer.

The key answer we found out is that while one could do all that. The vast majority did not. They suddenly didn’t overcome their irrationality, their biases, their thought processes, their lack of motivation or values.

A deeply human flawed world suddenly in the span of 25 years with the availability of the internet didn’t become less human. In fact, it became more divided.

We all had more information, but less truth.

The internet didn’t tear down walls we had been building all through history. It made them rise up sharper.

Then we have AI

The internet democratized access to information.
AI democratized access to cognition.

But humans are still humans.

The people using AI are still people and have the same human biases and more. Using AI just amplifies Humanity’s strengths and weakness.

cognition + irrationationalism = still irrational

After 25 years of the internet, there is a lot of views of cat videos and a lot less degrees.

What matters less is what AI provides to people (the ability to think and reason), what matters more is whether People choose to use it.

Being Human is always about the choices one makes and that is not changing one bit because of AI.

But here’s the reality: by the time you have definite information, it is almost always too late.

And most of the time, you didn’t need that certainty in the first place. Because most decisions are reversible.

Good Decision-Making Drives Outcomes

It’s easy to get caught up in execution. Shipping code. Closing deals. Improving metrics.

But behind every great execution loop is something quieter and more powerful: decision velocity.

The faster and clearer your team can make decisions, the more surface area you cover. The more you learn. The more options you unlock. Over time, the compounding effect of fast, reasonably good decisions far outweighs slow, perfect ones.

Execution speed comes from decision speed.

Reversible vs Irreversible

Not all decisions are equal. Some are high-stakes and hard to undo: launching a new product line, hiring a key exec, raising a round. These need time, debate, and deliberate judgment.

But most decisions in your company? They’re not like that.

• Which pricing page headline to test
• Whether to show onboarding tips on the left or right
• Whether to charge monthly or yearly by default
• What template to promote first in the gallery

All of these can be reversed with little cost. Yet we agonize over them like they’re irreversible.

The mindset shift is this: if a decision is easy to undo, make it fast.

Empower the Team

If only one person in the company can make a decision, everything slows down. You become the bottleneck.

But when your team understands the difference between reversible and irreversible decisions, they start moving with confidence. They stop asking for permission on small things. They stop looping in five people just to pick a button color.

Empower your team with two questions:

1. What’s the downside if this is wrong?
2. How quickly can we undo it?

If the answers are “minimal” and “fast,” the decision should already be made.

The Cost of Waiting

Every slow decision costs you. It delays learning. It reduces energy. It trains your team to default to indecision. You don’t need to be reckless. But you do need to be responsive.

And then, almost imperceptibly, it starts slipping.

Engagement drops a little. Retention softens. Feedback gets quieter. Sales cycles stretch longer. The team’s updates get louder, but the user response doesn’t. Something feels off.

It took me a while to realize this: product-market fit isn’t a milestone you check off. It’s a relationship you maintain. And like any relationship, it can drift if you don’t nurture it.

Let me walk through a few reasons why this happens and why PMF is never static.

1. The Market Moves With or Without You

The “market” in product-market fit isn’t a static, passive backdrop. It’s an active, evolving force. Customers grow. Teams mature. Budgets shrink or swell. Technologies rewrite what’s possible and what’s expected.

We often build to meet the needs of a very specific moment. But moments pass.

A product that feels magical in year one can feel basic in year three, not because it got worse, but because the market’s bar moved higher. If we don’t keep evolving with it, fit fades.

2. Early PMF Might Be Narrow

One mistake I’ve made is assuming that early traction meant broad validation. Sometimes what feels like PMF is actually a niche use case, a broken workaround, or even a fluke of distribution.

It’s not that these early wins aren’t real. They are. But they’re often fragile. Temporary. Easy to overgeneralize.

If you scale too quickly on a shallow foundation, cracks show up later. In churn. In lackluster referrals. In weak word of mouth. Retention becomes a lagging indicator of fit you no longer have.

3. Products Don’t Sit Still

We ship new features. Tweak pricing. Change messaging. Enter new segments. All these shifts, intentional or not, reframe the product. And sometimes, they bend the fit without us noticing.

A product that once solved one thing well starts trying to do three things decently. Fit gets diluted.

The lesson here is subtle but important. PMF is not just about having a good product. It’s about preserving the core magic that created fit in the first place.

4. What Got You Here Won’t Get You There

There’s a real difference between having PMF for 1,000 users and for 100,000.

Serving a tight-knit community is different from entering a noisy market. The support you offered by hand can’t scale without systems. The UX that felt delightful at a small scale becomes chaotic under heavier usage.

PMF doesn’t automatically scale. It has to evolve into a more robust, operationally sound version of itself.

5. The Field Gets Crowded

One of the paradoxes of finding PMF is that it attracts competition. That very fit you discovered becomes a blueprint for others.

Now your product is no longer the only one solving the problem. Others might do it cheaper, faster, or wrapped in a better story.

When everyone is converging on the same idea, your fit becomes harder to hold onto unless you deepen it.

So What Do You Do?

For me, the biggest shift was realizing that PMF is a process, not a prize.

Here’s what I try to practice:

• Revalidate often. Don’t assume what worked last year is working now. Look at retention. Look at expansion. Talk to new and old users.
• Map fit by segment. PMF isn’t binary. You might have strong pull in one use case and none in another.
• Protect the core. As your product grows, make sure the magic that made people care in the first place doesn’t get buried under complexity.
• Stay humble. Product-market fit isn’t something you earn once. It’s something you have to keep earning, over and over.

A Final Thought

We often celebrate finding PMF as if the work is done. But in truth, it’s just the beginning. Holding onto product-market fit, adapting it, growing it, defending it, is the work.

Fit is not a static achievement. It’s a living tension between who you serve and how well you solve their problem. The best teams don’t treat it like a checkbox.

They treat it like a habit.
